A Study in Curiosity

Or on starting resolutions late

Last year as I was going through my planner1 to organize my 2025 goals, I decided to utilize the “Core Values” page. This was a new feature that encouraged me to choose three out of the seventy-six core values to focus on in the upcoming year. The three words I chose were:

  1. Health

  2. Creativity

  3. Curiosity

Health and creativity totally make sense with my current stage in life. I struggled with chronic illness and am currently dealing with a series of medical mysteries. At the same time, my debut adult fantasy novel, Thistlemarsh, comes out in Spring 2026.

Curiosity, however, was the most exciting word to me. I was one of those kids who loved learning (probably because I got compliments for asking questions as a child), but I’ve noticed that in recent years much of that joy faded.

Given the current state of the world, the idea of indulging curiosity as an active pursuit has an undeniable draw.

I cannot guarantee consistency, but I plan on indulging at least two curiosities a month. This will look like a brief dive into something that tickled my curiosity during the month. The topic can span from the origin of a word, how a certain machine works, or the history of the fork. This is a personal project, and I am at the mercy of my own impulses.
